West Tanfield is a stretch of the River Ure running from just above Black Robin Beck at the foot of Hackfall Woods to about 1.2 km below West Tanfield, controlled by Tanfield Angling Club. Fishing is for club members and their guests. Species include brown trout, grayling and salmon. Night fishing is not permitted.
