Stainforth

Room for only THREE OR FOUR CARS over the bridge - and this is a known beauty spot, much favoured by artists in summer, so parking may have to be sought in Stainforth village where there is a car park and picnic area. ROUTE: take the A65 to Settle, go through the town and under the railway, then take the right fork, the B6479, to Stainforth. Just past Stainforth Church a narrow side road on the left signed 'Unsuitable for Caravans' turns back and crosses the railway to the river bridge. PAAS warn this road is impossible not only for caravans but for any vehicle above average width - and that passing is equally impossible on the road or on the bridge, which is if anything narrower than the lane. Larger vehicles must instead take the by-road from Settle, next-but-one past the B6479 turning.
