Salesbury Hall, Ribchester

TWO car parks. (1) LOWER END: from the A59 Preston-Clitheroe road turn off at the crossroads for Clayton-le-Dale onto the B6245, follow to Ribchester Bridge but do NOT cross - continue on the by-road towards Salesbury Hall; the road makes a half-circle and about 600 yards further on there is a purpose-built car park for 30 cars on the left, next to a house. It has two levels - PARK ON THE UPPER LEVEL. WARNING: PAAS state that thieves work this car park. Access to the river is over a stile and by a new path at the lower end of the car park, leading to Marles Wood; follow the bank upstream. The footpath from this car park is very steep in parts, as is the access to the top pool. (2) UPPER END: from the B6243 Clitheroe-Longridge road at Hurst Green, look for the Shireburn Arms (BB7 9QN) and take the by-road southward towards Lambing Clough and Trough House; pass Lambing Clough farm on the left and continue down a rough track over two cattle grids, then across a third - the car park is 50 yards on the left before Trough House farm. This approach is very rough in places. Proceed on foot down the track through the farm and over the footbridge. NOTE this car park is SHARED WITH WARRINGTON AA and is the first of two adjacent car parks, the second belonging to Mid-Ribble AS.
