Lower Madgell Bank Farm

TWO options, both needing a PAAS key. (1) For the LOWER reaches: turn left at the traffic lights on the A59 Preston-Clitheroe road along the B6245 (Broken Brow), turn left opposite Oak Mount towards Catterall, pass through a farmyard and gate, then after a further 250 yards on a track through a field pass a second gate (PAAS key required) - parking is on the right-hand side of the track. Continue on foot westwards; there is a stile at the entrance to the wood, then continue west along the top of the bank to a gradual slope down to the river, about a quarter of a mile in all. Take care in the wood, the terrain is steep in places. (2) For the UPPER section: continue down the hill to Lower Madgell Bank Farm, close to the Upper Limit. The track is 4x4 ONLY in wet weather. Park by the outbuildings under the pylons at the end of the track; there are steps into the wood by the river bank. The MIDDLE of the beat can only be reached from either end, because the bank is too steep in the centre.
