Hazeldene, Cil-Gwrgan, and Glan Hafren, Newtown — Prince Albert Angling Society

Three PAAS waters in an urbanised setting just outside Newtown, alongside the A483 Welshpool-Newtown road. River 10–15 yards wide, gravel bottom with some mud, light summer weed growth. Mainly a game fishery — coarse fishing here isn't rated as highly as other PAAS Severn waters. Hazeldene (Water 99) is a right-bank stretch, ½ mile, reasonably accessible, wadeable in parts. Glan Hafren (Water 252) is a further ½ mile, split by a No Fishing zone in front of Glan Hafren House — its upstream section continues from Hazeldene for a few yards; the lower section is reached via a gate along a fence-line, across a field, downstream of Glan Hafren House. Cil-Gwrgan (Water 149), also right bank, extends three fields below the B4398 road bridge, signposted Aberbechan off the A483 — has a good salmon pool, with salmon running late in the season here. Good chub to 5lb and a good head of dace throughout.
