Demesnes and Abbey Woods is a stretch of the River Tees running from the Green Bridge at Barnard Castle down past Abbey Bridge to Waters End, controlled by Barnard Castle Angling Club. Members fish it and day passes are sold through Fishing Passport. Species include brown trout, grayling, salmon and sea trout. Night fishing is permitted for migratory fish only, fly only.

Permits

Season Ticket £

Barnard Castle Angling Club membership (current club price list): adult £55, age 18 to 21 £30, under 18 free, OAP 70 and over £30. Full membership is for residents within 5 miles of Barnard Castle; associate members may also fish club waters.

Day Ticket £

2026 (Fishing Passport, checked Oct 2026): salmon full day £15, weekly ticket £40, winter grayling full day £8. Up to 10 tickets a day. The Greta water at Bowes is included in the ticket.

Night Fishing

The club rules (AGM 2024 edition) allow fishing during the hours of darkness for migratory fish only, fly only. Other fishing is daytime only.
