A PAAS water on the River Severn near Crew Green, just above and around its confluence with the River Vyrnwy. Above the confluence the Severn is about 15 yards wide, faster and shallower, with more bends, extensive weed beds, and good tree cover at Haimwood. Below the confluence the river widens abruptly to about 30 yards, deeper and less tree-lined, with some marginal weed — pools and runs give way to wide, slow, deep, fairly straight stretches. The bridge area has the best access and banks and is the most popular part of the fishing; upstream lengths are less favoured. Salmon numbers have declined in recent years but the Confluence Pool remains the best spot. Big chub are plentiful at Haimwood, though difficult to tempt.

Parking Information
Point of departure is Crew Green on B4393, about 17 miles west of Shrewsbury — A458 from the A5 orbital at Bicton Heath to Ford, fork right onto B4393. At Crew Green, just beyond the Fir Tree Inn, a by-road runs right to the river with a car park where the road divides. The road ahead leads to the river; the right fork crosses the Severn to a further parking place. For Haimwood: stay on B4393, cross the Severn short of Llandrinio, turn immediately right, fork right past Haughton Farm, follow the bend right along the river to the Shooting Centre (car parking here). Can also be approached from the Oswestry-Welshpool road, a mile or so south of Four Crosses, via A483 and B4393.
