Colthrop Weir Pool and Backstream is a stretch of the River Kennet running from Colthrop weir pool to Backstream end east of the Colthrop Lane bridge, controlled by Reed Thatcham Angling Association and shared with Civil Service Angling Society (CSAS). Fishing is for club members only. Species include barbel, chub, dace, roach, perch, pike and bream. Night fishing is not permitted.

Permits

Season Ticket £

RTAA 2026-27 permits (run 15 March to 14 March): Senior £35; OAP or Registered Disabled £25; Junior 12-16 £10; Junior under 12 with a parent as full member free; joining fee £5.

Day Ticket £

No public day tickets. Senior members may buy guest tickets (up to two guests per member per day, accompanied) from the approved outlet before fishing; price not published. Not available on the bank.

Night Fishing

RTAA does not publish a night-fishing rule. The CSAS water-sharing page says no night fishing behind the cottages at Colthrop. Assume no night fishing unless the club confirms.

Parking Information

From the A4 take Gables Way (or Colthrop Lane from the west), over the level crossing, left to the canal bridge, over it and right past the cottages; park at the end. From the car park reach the north bank of the weir pool; for the backstream walk downstream along the canal to peg 25, where a path leads to the backstream.
